Waste Management begins at the start of any decommissioning project by understanding of types of wastes and materials that are expected to require
management. Typically this is managed under as a 'Materials Inventory' and includes inventory listings of the amount, type and location of materials including hazardous and non-hazardous materials. E.g. residual hydrocarbons, heavy metals, sludges, sacrificial anodes and any radioactive material including LSA (Low Specific Activity) scale. Where exact quantities cannot be verified, estimates should be calculated. The Materials Inventory needs to be maintained and updated as the project is progressed through each of its decommissioning phases. This inventory is a key input to the Decommissioning Programme (DP) and is to be finalised upon completion of the project.
