The North Sea has moved into its decommissioning phase. Infrastructure is outdated, fields are depleted, and the industry has been under pressure due to the environmental impact of its activities. These challenges call for new technologies that can help the industry with not only cutting their costs, but also being autonomous and more environmentally friendly to support the net-zero drive for the North Sea.
Amphibious Energy has developed a first of its kind, transportable, autonomous energy container – the EnergyPod. The EnergyPod is a compact wind and solar driven electrical generator that is durable, safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. With a footprint of only 7.5m2, this 100% renewable energy generator combines Amphibious Energy’s patented Nautilus Offshore Wind Turbine with vertical orientated solar photovoltaic panels, and battery storage. This integrated container therefore offers a unique all-in-one, plug and play unit.
Supporting the late life cycle of the asset, the autonomous EnergyPod provides continuous as well as peak load for all vital systems on-board the unmanned platform during the safe-making and disassembly process. It is designed to withstand the harsh offshore North Sea environment. The self-sustainable unit includes remote monitoring of essential warning systems to ensure fulfilment of the obstruction marking obligations for all offshore installations.
Flexible Configuration: Flexibility in its design allows the EnergyPod to be assembled and single- lifted by crane or helicopter, thus reducing installation time and supporting decluttering of top-deck space. Each unit has a flexible configuration to fit the requirements of the operator, which minimizes the costs, risks and time for offshore deployment.
Rig-safe Generator: All offshore EnergyPods are available as Rig-safe generators, which have been modified to accommodate the minimum additional safety features as required for safe operation in an Oil & Gas installation. ATEX EnergyPods for hazardous environments are available on special request.
Performance: The unique, compact energy combination gives the EnergyPod optimal performance during all seasons of the year. With units tested and operating in Southern North Sea conditions, we can guarantee net power output for continuous as well as peak load for each unit. Sufficient power for a platform in lighthouse mode.
Maintenance: Whereas a diesel genset needs servicing and refueling every 450-500hrs, the maintenance interval for the EnergyPod is every 10.000hrs and can be paired with the operators’ service interval. Alternatively, maintenance intervals can be scheduled when the user receives notification on parts requiring replacement from the autonomous remote monitoring system build into each unit.
